I recently received an e-mail from a nonmember appraiser responding to the first letter I sent to the Appraisal Institute membership. This letter outlined the new initiatives for encouraging nonmembers to join the Appraisal Institute. One of the initiatives involves the creation of a new low-cost membership status for trainee appraisers. The nonmember appraiser wrote: "Your proposal is music to my ears!... I've been training for almost six years [as a commercial appraiser]. I've always wanted to align myself with AI, but the reality is I couldn't afford to do so on a trainee's limited income."
