Dear Editor:
I read John Kopcha's letter ["Only Major Reforms Will Combat I.D. Theft," 4th Quarter 2007] and am sorry to hear of [his] plight. I am part of a committee within MISMO (Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization--sponsored by the Mortgage Bankers Association) that is working on standards of practice and solutions for this issue. I also serve on the Industry Advisory Committee of The Appraisal Foundation, where this issue has been on our agenda for the past few years. I am working with a cross-functioned team that is preparing a presentation of this for a report to the MBA technology conference in March.
