Global eye-care product manufacturer Alcon Inc. has named Sabri Markabi, MD its new senior vice president of Research and Development, succeeding Gerald D. Cagle, PhD, who will retire from the Swiss company at the end of June after 32 years of service.
Markabi, who joins Alcon after serving as head of Development Franchise for Novartis Global Development, will have big shoes to fill in his new position. Cagle, who began his career at Alcon in 1976 as a senior scientist in Microbiology, quickly advanced to lead the Product Development organization and was named vice president, Product Development in 1985.
