Ask anyone to point to Yerevan on an atlas, and they're unlikely to have a clue where to look. It might not even help to explain that it's the ancient capital of Armenia, as few people know where that is either. And they would certainly be surprised to learn that the country has one of the fastest expanding economies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), with far more of a 'Western' outlook than many other of the former Soviet states. What's more, Armenia's primary international air gateway is one of the most modern airport facilities in the world.
