The tension between public and private ownership of open space in California and the West is a central theme in Robert Dawson's work. His mastery of the photographic medium is dearly evident in this depiction of Lake Tahoe from the late 1980s. Dawson's vantage point on the wooden dock focuses the viewer on two parallel lines converging at some imagined point in the distant horizon.
