Apple is the number-two music retailer in the United States: the iTunes Store is second only to Wal-Mart.(iTUNES)

Given Apple's focus on video sales recently, it can be easy to forget that what drives the iTunes Store is music. And the popularity of the iTunes Store has propelled Apple to the number-two spot among music retailers in the United States, following only Wal-Mart, according to market research firm NPD Group. The report from NPD also shows a decrease in CD sales, as younger buyers continue to shun traditional media in greater numbers.
