Eversince Dr. Wilfrid Shute claimed more than 50 years ago that vitamin E was beneficial for cardiovascular disease, this vitamin has been the subject of a great deal of controversy. For a long time, conventional doctors disparagingly referred to vitamin E as "the vitamin in search of a disease." Then, in the 1990s, several large epidemiological studies showed that high intake of vitamin E was associated with a substantial decrease in the risk of coronary heart disease.
