"Then She Found Me" might have been the film that Helen Hunt made at the peak of her post-Oscar clout.

Instead, nearly 10 years after her Oscar for "As Good As It Gets," the much-traveled festival entry opening in limited release Friday is Hunt's first leading role in nearly four years, as well as her feature directing debut.

In 1998, Hunt, fresh off the conclusion of her hit series "Mad About You" and with a best actress Oscar in hand, finally managed to wrest the film rights to Elinor Lipman's novel away from Sigourney Weaver.
