OFTEN, the wild imaginings of conspiracy theorists turn out to be just that. Sometimes, they fall short of the facts. That is the feeling in South Africa, now that prosecutors have produced their version of a killing in 1987, and General Magnus Malan--defence minister of the day--and 12 other whites, all former officers and mostly high-ranking, plus seven Zulus then close to the Inkatha movement (now party), face five counts of attempted murder and 13 of murder itself.
