Chemotherapy, radiation, surgery--
All these were options, but giving up was not.
From their conversations, it was hard
To know who wanted the treatment more,
The doctor, the patient, or the family.
They played off each other
Like cheerleaders, coach, and team:
Beating death was the goal,
And the clinical options were the game plan.
It was a fight to the finish, and they
Weren't finished.
The patient
Had grown tired, but wouldn't let on
To his doctor. After all, he didn't want
To let him down after all he had done for him.
