LEXINGTON, Ky. - The price of color ink jet printers continues to move in inverse proportion to its popularity: while more consumers are enthralled by the color aspect of the printing technology the tags keep dropping.

Lexmark International lowered the price on its entry-level 1020 color inkjet to an industry low of $199 in late December, helping to fuel the retail order rate, according to Noel Jones, manager of international marketing for the printer division.

The 1020 was originally priced at $249, a competitive rate with other color ink jets on the market from the likes of Canon Computer, Epson and Hewlett-Packard. Although Jones said sell-through figures ...
