Local and state officials are not the only ones weighing in on the death of congestion pricing.

James S. Simpson, administrator for the Federal Transit Administration, spoke out against Albany during a New York Building Congress breakfast last week.

"We at the DOT and the Bush Administration consider this to be a poor decision ... and shortsighted," he said at the Hilton in Midtown.

Simpson said money could have been raised with congestion pricing to help pay for sorely needed transportation improvements, while cutting traffic and pollution.
