Belarussian trade deficit shrinks 70% in Q1

MINSK. April 28 (Interfax) - Belarus' foreign trade deficit narrowed by 69% in the first quarter of 2008, to $170 million from $547.5 million in the same period a year earlier, the Economics Ministry estimates in a foreign trade assessment obtained by Interfax.

The ministry estimates that the visible trade deficit shrank to $640 million in the quarter from $836.4 million a year earlier, while the invisible trade surplus widened to $470 million from $290 million.

Visible exports jumped 65.5% in the quarter while imports increased by 54%, the ministry reckons.
