Americans celebrate 100 years of the Grand Canyon as a national monument.
Get ready to rock! It's a special year for the Grand Canyon. It was named a national monument 100 years ago. A national monument is a place that is protected by the United States government.
A canyon is a long, narrow valley with high cliffs on each side. Canyons are often carved by fast-moving rivers. The Grand Canyon is in Arizona. It was carved by the Colorado River. The river still flows through the Grand Canyon and wears away the rock.
Each year, about 5 million people visit the Grand Canyon. Scientists are working to protect the area. They do that by studying ...
