According to the USDA Forest Service, their most recent Resource Planning Act (RPA) data confirm that U.S. forestland is roughly as abundant today as it was a century ago. Among key findings: There are 750 million acres of forestland in the United States today, about the same as in 1907; 11 states had increases of more than 25 percent, and 9 had increases greater than 30 percent; and overall, foresdand in the Northern U.S. had increased by nearly 30 percent. For example, forestland in Massachusetts and New York has shown increases of more than 70 percent.
