Frequent nocturnal hemodialysis reduces left ventricular mass and decreases blood pressure and the need for antihypertensives, compared with conventional thrice-weekly hemodialysis, reported Dr. Bruce F. Culleton of the University of Calgary, Alta., and his associates.
The nocturnal treatment also improves metabolism of some minerals and improves some measures of quality of life (QOL), according to the results of what is described as the first randomized clinical trial to compare frequent nocturnal he modialysis with another dialysis modality for end-stage renal disease.
