Spain and Portugal are profiled in a new GAIN report (Feb. 5), which focuses on how the region has "modernized and expanded significantly over the last couple of decades." Being rather new to the market, the area's food-processing sector is up to date with the new EU requirements. In general, "[the food processing industry is] modern, with special attention to the quality, safety, and traceability of the food products it produces," which makes the area extremely competitive. A unique trait about the region is that the majority of food-processing companies are quite small.
