ATLANTA - Despite mounting controversy about the legality of Speedo's new LZR Racer swimsuit, the company's market share is on the rise as elite swimmers set scores of new records in the suit.
According to SportsScanINFO, Speedo's market share for men's swimwear among sports retailers has risen to 76 percent year-to-date from 64 percent in the same period last year. Also, about 80 percent of the U.S. Olympic swimming team are wearing the miracle swimsuit, and some swimmers backed by other swimwear companies are opting to wear the LZR Racer at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, which start Aug. 8.
