Privacy chief issues Phorm guide

Information commissioner orders Webwise to switch off targeted adverts by default

The controversial advertising system Webwise must allow users to opt in and choose to participate, rather than opt out, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has ruled.

Phorm, the company that developed the system A- and any internet service provider (ISP) that uses Webwise A- will be in breach of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) 2003 if they don't use the opt-in rule.
