TOKYO, May 2 Asia Pulse - Palace Hotel Co. plans to overhaul its flagship hotel in Tokyo into two 23-story towers, a hotel room wing and an office wing.
Opened in 1961, the Palace Hotel Tokyo's existing 10-story building, which also has three underground floors, is known for its spacious facilities and its prime location in central Tokyo overlooking the grounds of the Imperial Palace. But the hotel has aged over the years.
It is slated to be shut down at the end of next January, with demolition efforts scheduled to start that spring. The revamped hotel would then reopen as early as the end of 2011.
