When someone on Scott H. Beckman's risk management staff asks what he thinks of their loss control proposal or their claims management idea, he doesn't answer the question.
Instead, he turns the question back to them: What do they think of their own ideas? Do they think they should proceed? He wants them to apply their own knowledge, analyze the situation and then recommend action based on their own judgment.
The management practice has made his risk management staff-members better decision makers, Mr. Beckman said. They are increasingly capable of accepting the risks that accompany their decisions.
