TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular footballer after his sudden death.
The body of John Jackson, a goalkeeper with Billingham Synthonia Football Club, was found near Leven Viaduct, in Yarm, on Friday morning.
Details of how the 28-year-old, who was believed to be from Yarm, died have not been released.
Formerly a player with Shildon, Spennymoor and Marske United, John joined Synners in the 2005-06 season.
He had played 37 times this season for the Central Avenue-based club.
Club Secretary Graham Craggs said John's sudden death had rocked the club.
