T.J. Ward began spring drills as Oregon's top free safety almost by default. By the fall, he hopes to remove any questions about his ability to handle the job.
In the Ducks' star-studded defensive backfield, free safety is the only question mark this offseason. Ward has taken just about every practice rep with the first string, at first because he was the most experienced option but also because his top competition was needed elsewhere.
An expected battle between Ward and Marvin Johnson has yet to develop, because Johnson has played rover while Patrick Chung nurses a knee injury. That clash may have to ...
