The European Union's recent announcement that travelers can use cell phones in the air has nudged U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., to make sure the idea doesn't take off in the United States.
DeFazio, a senior member of the House Transportation Committee, along with Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Ill., and Rep. John Duncan,R-Tenn., has introduced a bill that would prohibit the use of cell phone voice communication during flight, even if the airlines develop systems that meet safety standards.
