WASHINGTON -- Baroness Ann Taylor, the top military procurement official in the United Kingdom, warned Tuesday against "buy American" protectionism amid a battle in Congress over the award of a lucrative Air Force tanker jet contract to a team of Northrop Grumman and the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co.
"Protectionism can be to some people an attractive short-term fix, but actually it is a very dangerous long-term policy," she told a Capitol Hill audience that included defense industry officials.
