TOKYO, May 8 Asia Pulse - Major Japanese retailers will work with the government to devise a voluntary system that will display on labels the carbon footprints of consumer products, The Nikkei learned Wednesday.

The labels will show how much carbon dioxide gas has been emitted in producing, distributing and marketing each product. Similar labels are gradually catching on in Europe.
