Meeting in Paris from 16 to 18 April, representatives of the 16 biggest economies(1) (Major Economies Meeting - MEM - on energy security and climate change) aimed to break down certain barriers that might block the international climate negotiations. The Paris session, the third of its kind, aimed to build consensus on principles such as the common long-term vision' foreseen by the Bali road map (December 2007) and on more technical issues such as the sector-based approach and technology transfer.
