Back during America's last misguided military misadventure--a.k.a. the Vietnam War--the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh was a popular destination for American soldiers on leave. In those days the city shed its sleepy ways and took on the trappings of a garrison town--with bars, brothels, bar girls, cheap drugs and even local bar bands playing a homegrown, Khmer version of 1960s psych-rock.
