The new head of the state police needs to move quickly to restore public confidence in the tarnished force.
He's got a big job ahead of him. The state police have been sullied with scandal for a year.
First, the agency got caught up in a scheme concocted by aides to then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer and, a prosecutor says, Spitzer himself, to smear Senate Republican Majority Leader Joe Bruno. An investigation later found that state police improperly compiled travel records to show that Bruno used state aircraft for political purposes.
Then there was the stunner in March that Spitzer had paid for sex with high-priced prostitutes. His last tryst occurred in ...
