Staff at the Roussel Tunisie pharmaceuticals plant are constantly reminded of the need for quality control. Masks and protective clothing are worn at all times. The standards to be met are those set by the US Food & Drug Administration, and the aim is to be world class. The hygienic new plant is a model of modem efficiency - the non-unionised workforce even organise their own shifts on the production line.
The European-owned firm, a subsidiary of Hoechst Roussel Pharma, is one among a growing number of industrial plants and services companies setting up in the greenfield industrial estates which surround the Tunisian capital.
