Melbourne - Australian Ballet has picked former AB principal dancer Ross Stretton as its next artistic director, effective January 1, 1997, Australian Ballet Foundation chairman Tim Cox announced. Stretton, currently assistant artistic director of American Ballet Theatre, will succeed Maina Gielgud, artistic director of the company since 1983.
"We are delighted to have found someone of Mr. Stretton's outstanding caliber," Cox says. Stretton is excited.
