User fees aren't the only user fees.(REMARKS)

Normally I like living in the out-of-the-way corner of the country that rarely makes the news. When we do pop up on the national news radar, it's usually for our odd-ball, New England mix of progressive and Puritan.

Late last year Maine appeared on the GA newsfeed because of our state's unenlightened "use tax." Basically, this is a stab at sales-tax dodging. Buy a new plane as a Maine resident and you pay a healthy five-percent tax. You get slapped with the same tax on a boat, too, but most of those run an order of magnitude cheaper, even in the posh summer playgrounds of the well-heeled.
