Article: SONAT OFFSHORE DRILLING CONFIRMS OFFSHORE BAHRAM SINKS WHILE IN TOW

HOUSTON, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Sonat Offshore Drilling Inc. (NYSE: RIG) today confirmed that the Offshore Bahram, a 250 foot, cantilevered jackup, sank in approximately 40 to 50 feet of water while in tow from Ras Gharib Bay in the Gulf of Suez, offshore Egypt. The rig was being relocated to a new stacking location. All personnel were evacuated safely and without injury.

The incident occurred on January 25, 1996 at approximately 10:30pm CST. Initial reports indicated the rig sank intact approximately 800 meters offshore and south of Ras Gharib Harbor. No contamination or damage to property was noted.
