Charlotte Chandler met Federico Fellini over a meal, which was only as it should be, since food was so much a part of the Italian filmmaker's life.
It was 1980, and Chandler had just written ``Hello, I Must Be Going,'' the as-told-to memoirs of Groucho Marx. She had begun work on a series of interviews with actors, artists and playwrights, and thought Fellini would make a good candidate.
``He didn't like interviews, but he liked my Groucho book,'' recalls Chandler, promoting ``I, Fellini'' (Random House, $26.50), the autobiography she wrote in collaboration with the moviemaker.
