After closing the last of its stores in the mid-1990s, Hartmarx Corp. is now testing the retail waters again.

The clothing maker has opened three upscale Hickey Freeman stores in New York and one in San Francisco, along with Bobby Jones sportswear shops in several cities and a couple of outlet stores. At the April 16 annual meeting, management said its next Hickey Freeman shop would open by July at 114 E. Oak St. in Chicago.

Hartmarx Chairman and CEO Homi B. Patel also said the company is seeking a site for its first Hart Schaffner Marx boutique, likely to open in the Loop by next year. The company recently upgraded its Hart Schaffner suits, ...
