Democrats eye tougher rent rules
Senate majority leader Joseph Bruno once said that every time rent-regulation activists yell, his campaign coffers are replenished by the real estate industry. History may well repeat itself: Four pro-tenant bills were approved last week by the Assembly Housing Committee.
Linda Rosenthal's a.7416a would repeal vacancy decontrol, ending the system by which apartment rents over $2,000 are deregulated when units become vacant.
