Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) is planning to put in $1.5 billion for expanding its fiber-optic networks from 2008-2012. CHT has allocated $1.3 billion for buying network equipment from Taiwanese makers.

This massive investment in its optical fiber networks forms a part of the company's NGN (next-generation network) five-year project, under which it would spend nearly $3.91 billion till 2012.
