Says here that Minnesota Fats died Thursday after a prolonged illness. He would have been 96 Friday.
Or, is it 83 Friday?
Can't say for sure because ``Fats'' had two birth certificates that listed his birthdate as Jan. 19, 1900 and Jan 19, 1913. Neither lists his name as Fats or his birthplace as Minnesota.
In fact all we know for sure about the man who was also known as ``NY Fats,'' ``Fatty,'' ``The Sultan of Stroke,'' ``Triple Smart'' and the ``Dean of the Green'' is that he would answer to almost anything if you called him to a pool table or a dinner table.
Assuming he's dead, and I wouldn't bet it unless I knew how he was betting, the fat ...
