Article: Grand Central bids for extra service.

Rail operator Grand Central could have its fourth daily train service from Sunderland to London up and running by July.

The transport company, which started its high-speed direct link to the capital in December last year, has been looking to put in an extra service since July 2005 and has applied for a 9.18am slot.

Ian Yeowart, managing director of Grand Central's development wing, Grand Union, is expecting a decision in the next four weeks.

He said: "The fourth train would be a very important thing for the people of Sunderland.

"Having a train that leaves Sunderland at 9.18am is a nice time if you want to go for a day out in London.
