COLUMN: RED SOX NOTES
MINNEAPOLIS - The way Craig Hansen found out he was staying in the major leagues for the time being was very unofficial.
He and Manny Delcarmen were having lunch at Boston's team hotel here yesterday when Julian Tavarez came in and began saying goodbye to what were now his ex-teammates. With Sean Casey being activated from the disabled list, the Red Sox designated Tavarez for assignment to clear a roster spot.
Boston has 10 days to do something with Tavarez, and those options include sending him to the minors, but he has the right to refuse such an assignment.
