Profound changes in the climate for business now call for a new broader and deeperminded breed of executives, men and women who can think through and beyond the bottom line but all too often seem unprepared to do so. Today's business leaders will have to become more socially and politically sensitive to achieve profitable growth in the years ahead. A parallel call is rising for a new breed of business economists who think and act like decision makers, broaden the multidisciplined dimensions of their work, and serve as scouts and shields for senior policy executives.
