BRAVE war veterans are preparing for a different kind of battle - to save one of Newcastle's last Royal British Legion clubs from closure.
For more than 30 years the Newcastle Central Royal British Legion Club in West Jesmond Avenue has played host to some of the city's greatest heroes and is at the centre of Remembrance Day events and the annual Poppy Appeal.
But dwindling numbers have plunged the club into financial crisis and without radical action it will call time at the bar next month.
