Whether the New York State Police had (or has) a rogue unit, or even one rogue freelancer, who spied on and gathered dirt on state officials over the years -- as has been implied recently -- it is critical that Attorney General Andrew Cuomo sort through the details until the public is satisfied that:
The alleged corruption among the state police ranks has been proven or discounted, including the exposure of all possible perpetrators, whose numbers could include high-ranking officials.
The state police will not continue to act as an independent fiefdom, arbitrarily deciding how, when and if it should release public information.
