POLICE defended their response to rampaging Rangers fans as "appropriate" yesterday, as they blamed a minority of yobs for violent clashes which marred the Uefa Cup final.
The Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester, Justine Curran, said they had no choice but to act against supporters who behaved like a "baying pack of wolves".
CCTV footage in Manchester city centre showed a lone officer being set upon by fans who kicked him on the ground as he faced up to about 200 charging supporters.
