A POLICEMAN who was pursued by a baying mob of drunken football fanssaid yesterday that he may owe his life to a soldier who stepped in and rescuedhim.
PC Mike Regan was caught by a group of thugs as he tried to help another policeofficer in Wednesday night's pitched battles with Glasgow Rangers fans inManchester.
CCTV footage showed him stumbling away from the group before falling and beingrepeatedly kicked and stamped on. He then struggled to his feet - only to beconfronted by two more men.
To his relief, one of them announced 'I'm British Army' and propelled him awayfrom the rampaging mob.
