High-energy ultrasound offers clearer liver images.(in the news)(Brief article)

A high-energy form of ultrasound imaging produces pictures of liver tumors that are better than those made with traditional ultrasound, according to a study that appeared in the Jan. 7 issue of Physics in Medicine and Biology.

Traditional ultrasound is a commonly used guidance method in medical procedures. However, a significant number of tumors are difficult to see with ultrasound, forcing physicians to use other methods such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance.
