What is special about your hometown? That's the question we asked in our Hometown America contest, which appeared in our November 26, 2007, issue. In response, we received essays about unique celebrations, favorite tourist attractions, historic events, and even a local mail. This year's winner is Chloe Gabel, who wrote about the wildfires that struck her community of Poway, in San Diego, California, last fall. Here is her essay:
