NAPLES -- Police stormed into a hospital Feb. 11 and interrogated an abortion patient while she was still recovering from anesthesia. Because the police had received an anonymous tip that the fetus was over the prescribed 24 weeks allowed for abortions, they confiscated the aborted fetus. They later determined that it was a 21-week fetus. Since 1978, Italy has allowed abortions in the first trimester.
On Feb. 14 protestors in several cities staged demonstrations in support of Silvana, the woman who was subjected to this ordeal. In Rome, several hundred women and some men protested outside the Ministry of Health. Many held signs saying, "Silvana, ...
