ANAHEIM -- His mistake in Wednesday's defeat notwithstanding, Erick Aybar has been everything the Angels had hoped for as a replacement to Orlando Cabrera.

Aybar wasn't even the Opening Day shortstop, but make no mistake, the Angels had the 24-year old pointed toward the starting spot even before the surprise trade of Orlando Cabrera to the Chicago White Sox this offseason.

With unexpected power, speed, a plus arm and a steely nerve on hard-hit grounders, what's not to like?
