(Nasdaq: AAPL) today announced that its Board of Directors agreed that it was in the best interest of Apple Computer to have a transition in leadership. Accordingly, the Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Gilbert F. Amelio, formerly Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of National Semiconductor Corporation, as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Apple, effective immediately. Spindler will no longer serve as a member of Apple's Board of Directors.
Dr. Amelio, 52, joined Apple's Board in November 1994, and has a first-hand working knowledge of Apple. In assuming the positions of Chairman and CEO of Apple, he has resigned from his management roles at ...
